The People behind Enval
Martin Lamb, Chairman of the Board
With more than 25 years' experience in the compound semiconductor materials industry, Martin has held various senior positions including Managing Director of Wafer Technology Ltd. He was part of the team that effected a management buyout of Wafer Technology in 1994 and in the following six years turned the business profitable and grew sales aggressively, winning the Queen's Award for Export in 1997. The company was then sold to IQE plc and Martin served on the main board of IQE plc whilst it held listings on the main London Stock Exchange and later on AIM.
Since leaving IQE plc Martin has been active as a business angel, investing in twelve early-stage companies in the technology sector. He serves on the Board of several companies within his portfolio, many of which are commercialising novel technologies related to the production or processing of materials.
He has an MBA from the University of Leicester and a BSc in Applied Physics & Electronics from the University of Durham.
Dr. Carlos Ludlow-Palafox, Acting Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer
Since founding Enval in 2005, Carlos has been in charge of operations. From 2006 Carlos has been the Acting MD and as CTO, he takes responsibility for the day-to-day programme of technology development and supervises projects for clients using Enval's proprietary equipment.
Carlos graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City in 1996. He worked in industry as a Project Engineer before getting a scholarship from the National Science and Technology Council of Mexico and moving to Cambridge to do his PhD. He received his PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Cambridge in 2002. During his doctoral research and subsequently as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate, he, in conjunction with Professor Howard Chase, developed the basis of the Enval process, driving the advancement and integration of the technology.
David Boorman, Business Development Director
David joined Enval in 2009 to look after commercial and business development activities. David is a highly experienced Commercial Manager with a background in hi-tech electronics, where he was responsible for brokering major deals between early stage companies and large, established businesses. Before joining Enval, David worked at ARM and Amino.
Professor Howard Chase, R&D Director
Howard Chase has held the position of Professor of Biochemical Engineering at the Department of Chemical Engineering since 1 October 2000.
Professor Chase joined the academic staff of the department as an Assistant Lecturer in 1984, became a Lecturer in 1986 and Reader in Biochemical Engineering in 1996. He was the Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering from 1998-2006.
Professor Chase is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers. He is also a chartered engineer, a chartered scientist and a chartered chemist.
